The FBI, in partnership with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), announced a joint initiative aimed at informing student-athletes about cyber-enabled tactics used by sexual exploitation actors to obtain and sell private images.
The initiative is designed to raise awareness among athletes about some of the methods exploited to acquire private images and to connect them with established avenues for reporting incidents. The FBI and the NCAA said the effort will focus on educating current student-athletes about risks tied to digital exploitation and on directing them to appropriate reporting resources.
According to the announcement, the collaboration intends to provide information about these cyber-enabled tactics and to make clear where student-athletes can seek help and report suspected exploitation. The initiative represents a coordinated outreach between a federal law enforcement agency and the collegiate athletics governing body to address a specific form of digital victimization affecting the student-athlete community.
The joint announcement was issued by the FBI as a National Press Release on August 10, 2026. It highlights the two organizations’ shared interest in prevention and reporting related to the unauthorized collection, sale, or distribution of private images involving student-athletes.
The FBI and NCAA encouraged student-athletes to take advantage of the information and reporting channels promoted through the initiative.
