Groups Behind Supreme Court Birthright Win Move to Shield Babies From Trump’s Latest Citizenship Push

Legal advocacy groups that secured a Supreme Court victory on birthright citizenship are now mobilizing to protect babies from what the ACLU of New Hampshire describes as former President Donald Trump’s latest attacks on citizenship, the ACLU reported on Aug. 17, 2026.

The ACLU’s notice identifies the same legal teams that prevailed at the high court as taking steps aimed at preventing changes that, in their view, would undermine automatic U.S. citizenship for children born here. The organizations’ action signals an immediate legal response to the issue and keeps the question of birthright citizenship on the front burner of national debate.

Advocates say the work is focused on preserving the Supreme Court outcome and guarding children’s access to citizenship rights. The ACLU framed the development as a continuation of litigation and public-interest work by the groups that previously secured the high-court win.

As the ACLU reported, the move places the same coalition that won at the Supreme Court back into a central role as new challenges to citizenship policy arise. The matter remains legal and political terrain to watch in the months ahead.
