Arkansas leaders rally at the Capitol and roll out 988+1 campaign to boost veteran suicide prevention

Arkansas leaders gathered at the state Capitol in a continuing effort to raise awareness about suicide prevention for veterans and their families, reports KATV and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. The Capitol event focused attention on the challenges military families face and the statewide push to connect veterans with crisis resources.

At the same time, state officials have unveiled a campaign called “988 + 1,” described by KATV as an effort to boost suicide-prevention awareness specifically among veterans. Organizers say the campaign is intended to make it easier for veterans and their loved ones to learn about and access crisis supports.

Both news outlets highlighted leaders’ emphasis on outreach and awareness as central to the effort, noting the dual focus on veterans and their families. The initiative joins other statewide efforts aimed at reducing veteran suicide by promoting crisis resources and encouraging people to seek help.
